EXPLORE: Maui – What to See and Do in Hawaii

Aloha! There are so many wonderful activities and things to do in Maui! You can do anything from snorkeling to watching the Haleakala sunrise to relaxing at a spa to having an adventure on the Road to Hana. While I wasn’t able to do everything that Maui has to offer I was able to do seven amazing activities while there. Check out what I did in Hawaii to get ideas for your trip and I even added 10 additional ideas, too! Let me know what you’re looking forward to doing in Maui in the comments below.

Maui - What to See and Do

While in Maui I was able to do the entire Road to Hana, go whale watching, go to numerous beaches, see a luau, go shopping and dining in Lahaina, explore a winery, and eat so much delicious food!

1. Road to Hana

The Road to Hana has 620 curves with 59 bridges and takes hours to complete but it is an amazing adventure that is different for each explorer. I was able to stop at 11 different spots! With so many fruit stands, water falls, beaches, scenes, and stops no one can possibly have the same adventure.

2. Go Whale Watching

One thing I really wanted to do in Maui was go whale watching! We booked through Pacific Whale Foundation in Lahaina. While I didn’t see a whale this time I did get to enjoy going out on the water in a catamaran with my family.

3. Go to the Beach

There are so many amazing beaches in Maui! Ho‘okipa is a great beach for surfing and turtle gazing while the Black Sand Beach is more rugged. The Red Sand Beach is a real challenge to get to! There are amazing beaches all over Maui. A definite must do!

4. Go to a Luau

If you’ve never been to Hawaii you should definitely go to a luau! The Old Lahaina Luau is fun and educational. You are welcomed with leis and a cocktail and the buffet includes Poi, Poke ‘Ahi, Pua’a Kalua, sides, breads, desserts and more. The performers entertain with traditional hula and present Hawaii history through story telling.

5. Lahaina for Shopping and Eating

Lahaina is a great town to go shopping in and to dine in. After checking out the Banyan Tree (pictured above), I did a little shopping and picked up a few things like flower hair clips, Hawaiian black lava salt, kukui nut jewelry, pineapple candy, and a few other gifts for friends. After a full day of whale watching and shopping we went to eat dinner at Lahaina Coolers. Check out this deliciousness:
